Ingredients:
When I was a kid we used to carry the Atta, Sugar and Ghee to the baker and he used to bake the biscuits in front of us, they used to last a long time as we used to get one full Cannister of biscuits and I still like its taste as they used to be fresh and simple and without any artificial flavouring or preservatives.

Here is a recipe for that

1. Atta (Wholemeal Flour ) 250 gm
2. Sugar 125g grams
3. Butter or Ghee 150 grams

2 cups Atta
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
5 tablespoon sugar
5 tablespoons butter chilled
1 cup whole milk
Instructions:
Sift the dry ingredients together into a large bowl.
Add the cold butter and work the butter through the flour with fingertips.
Every bit of flour should be combined with a bit of butter.
Add the milk and stir vigorously until the dough forms a ball.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
Knead lightly about 10 strokes. Stop just as soon as the dough begins to look smooth.

Pat the dough into a rectangle. Cut into biscuit size pieces.
The biscuits will rise more and come out tenderr if the dough is worked as little as possible.
Place on a greased sheet in an oven preheated to 500 degrees F and bake about for about 8 minutes or until browned.

I made the biscuits exactly as per the instructions given, but it didn't taste as the baker's biscuits were used to taste. It tastes something like Atte ke ladoo. Do you use milk to knead the dough?
