Ingredients:
Rava ( Sooji ) Semolina 1 Cup
Water 1 1/2 Cups
Ghee or Oil 2 Tablespoons
Onion small 1 diced
Urad Dal 1 teaspoon
Gram Dal 2 teaspoons
Red Chillies 1- 2
Butter 2 teaspoons
Curry Leaves 5
Mustard Seeds 1 teaspoon
Cashew nuts 10 broken in halves
Raisins 20
Instructions:
1. Take a Frypan and heat the oil.
2. When hot, put the mustard seeds.
3. Add the Urad Dal and Gram Dal.
4. Add Red Chillies.
5. Add Curry Leaves.
6. Add Onions.
7. Fry for 2-3 minutes, then add the Rava (Semolina or Sooji) , fry till rava turns slightly pinking.
8. In another vessel or kettle heat the water .
9. When water starts boiling, add it to the rava mixture.
10. Make sure you stir continuously and let the upma cook.
11. After water starts drying, cover the vessel for 2 minutes.
Garnish it with cashews, raisins and Buter.
You can also add some peanuts.
You can also mix any vegetables in the UPMA eg, finely diced carrots, tomatoe cubes, Peas etc..
