Prunes are great anti oxidants.

Anti Oxidants prevent our body cells from the damage which is caused by free radicals.
Free radicals are unstable molecules that result from normal cell metabolism, smoking, pollution and UV irradiation.

It has been proven that these free radicals may contribute to pre-mature aging, cardiovascular diseases, certain types of cancers and skin wrinkles.

The potency of anti oxidants is measured in ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbency Capacity) and the prune ranks very high score of 5770 ORAC units per 100 grams.

Prunes are high in fibre and help prevent the constipation.

Th Glycemic Index (GI) Rating of prunes is a low 29. That means that though prunes are rich in sugar but they do not cause a rapid rise in blood sugar levels.

The Glycemic Load (GL) of prunes is 9.57 (low).

Prunes have about 240 calories per 100 grams (67 calories per 1 ounce).
Prunes contains like vitamin A and vitamin K. Prunes are a good source of potassium, copper, boron and magnesium.

Prunes can also prevent Osteoporosis, or ‘brittle bones’.

The experiments have proven that the dried plums are most effective to help prevent the Osteoporosis and reversing the bone loss.

In a study in US it was found that the clinical group of woemen that consumed dried plums had significantly higher bone mineral density in the spine and in the ulna (one of two long bones in the forearm) compared with the group that ate dried apple.

Eating about 5 to 10 prunes every day could give us a lot of benefits.
